1965 - US troops first arrived in Vietnam to help the South fight against the North, also when most major US attacks happened
1967 - many attacks on both sides and great losses of troops
1968-1969 - a bombing, massacre, and march all happened within the span of less than 2 years. 
1975 - Saigon falls marking the end of the war

2 major effects are that Vietnam is now one country, under a communist gov’t, and relating to the Cold War, the USSR “won”.

North Vietnam won the war and it showed a surrogate war because it is similar to how the USSR is communist and wants to spread it to other countries. It connects to the present day because today many countries are still fighting for/against certain politics.
