The candle is a small white candle sitting in the bottom of Africa, in south africa to be specific. The candle is producing a yellow glow. The only light in the picture is coming from the candle. The cutout is not exactly perfect. Africa is in the center of the photo. There is no water or other contaminants surrounding the cutout. If there are other shapes around the original one, the light is not reaching them showing that they are not getting the light that the candle is producing. The shape is carved.
2.) Think: The carved shape looks like the shape of Africa. I think that the cutout is hand made because of the imperfections on Africa. I think the cutout is inside of stone because of the rough background. I think that the candle might represent the sun because it is in South Africa where land is very hot. I think that The darkness is around it so that the looker must only focus on Africa. The candle may represent the lightness inside of the dark or "the good inside of the bad" because there is lots of economic disadvantages and bad things happening but there is still hope because many people are coming to help. I think that the carving might be a pumpkin because of the orange background,
