Although modern day America isn't exactly how he wanted it to be,  due to extremists and also politics, it is fair to say that his speech has affected all of us. He brought light to racism and the resentment that was put upon black people, encouraging protests and civil right activities. King led a boycott against city buses that refused to allow black people to sit in the front of the buses.
