Hi, my name is Sienna!

I have chosen Psychology as a teaching method because I am passionate about how psychology knowledge can help a person flourish in all aspects of wellbeing and life. For example, better knowing themselves, purposes for behaviors, their lived and observed relationships, their occupational lives, humanity and society. I find it so intriguing how this subject can be linked to every student context. I hope to spark a passion for psychology in my students to help them improve their lives even if they do not wish to seek psychology as a career. Psychology is an ever-growing field and highly relevant to societies most significant issues.

I was born and raised in Warrnambool (SW coast of Victoria) and also lived in Brisbane for about 10 years. I studied Arts and Science at UniMelb, majoring in history, anthropology, ecology, and psychology. I then did an honours year in anthropology and then a Master of Teacher (both at UniMelb) with history and biology as my teaching methods. I then taught for a while as a relief teacher (across different secondary sciences) and then undertook a PhD at Deakin Uni (in science education) that led to research assistant and research fellow work and my current role as a lecturer (I've worked with lots of schools and teachers in these roles). I really got into engaging with VCE Psychology via this unit about five years ago (when I was first Unit Chair, I've had the good fortune to work and learn from fabulous colleagues such as Jen Waldron) and I am really motivated about working with soon-to-be psychology teachers to best support them to share their passion for psychology for young people in schools. I've always had a strong interest in the way the mind works in relation to the body, and over time I have developed an appreciation that this dualism is problematic, as well as an increasing interest in the entanglement of our minds and bodies with the Anthropocene.

Hi, my name is Nikkita (Nikki is fine). I did my undergrad in psychological sciences, and have gone on to work in various industries including youth mental health, workforce development and education and more recently working in project management/professional learning for teachers at the Department of Education. I've always really enjoyed psych and loved learning it in high school and think understanding how the brain works can be beneficial in so many aspects of life.

Hi, my name is Georgia! I have chosen Psychology as a teaching method because I love learning about how the brain works, and how it effects human behaviour. I did my undergrad in Criminology and have a high interest in the psychological aspects of crime also. I'm excited to bring my passion for Psychology into the classroom and hopefully spark interest in the students for Psychology too!

Hi all, my name is Chloe Fife! I studied a Bachelor of Arts in Writing & Rhetoric Studies, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and a Juris Doctor in the United States. I practiced law for two years after graduating from law school, then I made the decision to retrain to become a teacher. I moved to Australia this year. I chose psychology because I am interested in the brain and group dynamics, and I enjoy teaching others about how our brains work. I hope to learn more about how the VCE program works in this unit.

Hi everyone, my name is Sean and I’m from China. I completed my undergraduate studies in biology and psychology, and I’ve always been fascinated by how both disciplines explore the ways we engage with the world around us.

Biology examines our relationship with the natural world, while psychology delves into how we relate to others and ourselves. What excites me most is the overlap between the two, where science and human experience intersect.

Through this unit, I hope to deepen my understanding of effective psychology teaching strategies, strengthen my interdisciplinary skills, and learn how to meaningfully integrate psychological concepts into my future teaching to support student learning and wellbeing.

Looking forward to learning with you all!

Hi all, my name is Alicia. I have chosen psychology as a teaching method because of my own experiences in the VCE psychology classroom (many moons ago).

As a student, I never considered myself as particularly 'sciencey', and was drawn instead to Arts and Language subjects. However, I was encouraged to take a science at VCE, and chose psychology because, honestly, it seemed like it would involve the least amount of maths. Suddenly, I found a science that was not only fun and interesting, but the teaching of which was explicitly grounded in my own experiences as a learner and adolescent.

In this unit, I hope to refresh and deepen my understanding of the curriculum content, and, as my other methods are English/EAL, develop greater capacity and confidence for teaching a science.
