What are some aspects you’ve learnt about academic integrity that you didn’t know before?

Working on Problem 3 really opened my eyes to how broad academic integrity is and how easily small mistakes can become breaches. I didn’t realize that copying statistics or information directly from an article could be considered a violation. At first, I thought that if the information was factual, it was fine to include it in my work. However, I learned that how we present information matters just as much as the content itself. Paraphrasing properly, using quotation marks when necessary, and citing sources correctly are all important in showing honesty and respect for others’ work. Even small errors, such as forgetting to reword a sentence or misplacing a reference, can count as breaches, which made me more careful and thoughtful in how I handle my assignments.

This problem has also helped me a lot with my opinion essay writing for A1. I became more aware of how to integrate information properly and support my ideas using credible sources without relying too much on direct copying. I also learned to double-check my references and make sure my writing reflects my own understanding. Overall, I gained a deeper understanding of academic integrity and how even the smallest details can make a big difference in maintaining honesty and fairness in my work.

What was your greatest challenge when writing the Executive Summary or preparing for your presentation?

To be honest, our team didn’t really know how to come up with an executive summary at first. We kind of misunderstood the task and thought it was just a short intro, so we only wrote like two or three sentences. Later on, I realized that it’s supposed to summarize the key points and arguments clearly, not just introduce the topic. I definitely learned my lesson from that and now I actually know how to write one properly.

We chose “Inflation and the rising cost of living,” which a few other teams also picked, so it was quite competitive. But honestly, it was really fun hearing how each team approached the same topic differently. The hardest part for us was gathering information and making it sound engaging for the audience. I didn’t present, but my teammates did such a good job during the presentation and really pulled it off. Overall, it was a fun problem to work on, and I learned a lot from the whole process.
