In Week 5, we have been introduced to the knowledge on page design, the do's and the don't's and how to make a page readable and pleasing to the eye. 
 
To test your understanding, you are required to find a story page in a local newspaper of 2017. Similar to the previous task, select one page that has more than one story. Take a picture and share on padlet what do you think about the page design. Is it good or bad? What would you suggest to make it more attractive?

These differences give a variety in presenting the news which it is good to attract the readers. 

Next, this page design’s module is in rectangular units which the arrangement of the story is well – organized. This page design is not dull as there are arts for each of the news and the arrangement of the arts are balanced. 

Hence, it should be a dominant photo and news to be highlighted to show that it is the most important news to attract the readers’ attention which it can be done by boxing the story which shows it is special. 

Overall, the page design used by this page is good but there are some improvements that have to be make such as the usage of headline should be more appealing to the readers’ eye, the arrangement of the story should be arrange based on which news is more important.

It does not really emphasize what is important and where is their main story but then fortunately, the readers may still guess which one is it. If only they make it(the main story) a little bit bigger than the others, it would be more eyes catching for the readers. Overall, this kind of page design seems to have their own target audience as their way in scattering the arts highlight more on attracting the readers' eyes. -Firstly, the good of Berita Harian page design is they  use suitable colour for the musthead to highlight the names of their newspaper to the readers so that the readers will remember and recognize theirs newspaper. Berita Harian also put many important pictures that related to the headline in a square box so it will catch the readers eyes once they look at the front page of the newspaper design to make they want to read more about the story .
-unfortunately, the arrangement of the square box is quite bad because it looks like the newspaper want to highlight everything in 1 page as it is a bit redundant for me. It is actually will just make a confusion to the readers.
-my suggestion to make this newspaper page design attractive is the newspaper itself should not put too much story in front of the page as it will look a little bit messy. It should placing just 2 or 3 story in front so the readers will differentiate the story which one the important one and which one is less important. If the newspaper still want to highlight many story in front, they still can make a jumpline in front but in just 1 column, so it would be easy to the readers to decide which story they want to read first.

This newspaper is pages with art. It design keep all story shape rectangular and it also using a mugshot for the people that involved in the story and dominant photo such as "durian" fruit to highlight the main story. For the second pages, it using modular page design. It has 5 modular page design that keep design neatly and clearly for the readers to read. The second page also has a story too long and it make the design to trim a photo by resize the photo and move an advertising to make design not too crowded. In my suggestion, I think we can reduce by putting too many picture if the story is too long and fix. In my opinion, this local newspaper have a good and attractive design due to its effective highlight on the main story using catchy word and mugshot. As we all know Kosmo is a tabloid newspaper, its front page have three main story and the main one is on the yellow text story which is "Presiden FAM guris hati peminat bola Malaysia". Using the only sensational caption in the front page, this newspaper success in attract the readers to read it. Although the photo they use not the dominant one but its still manage to catch people attention. The story design used is horizontal which is pleasing to the eye and it help create the illusion that the stories are shorter. overall, this page design good and it not too messy with text. this newspaper success in attract reader.

For the headline of Rohingya refugee crisis worsens, it highlights worsens in red colour as it shows the condition there is really bad. The headline size is bigger to be compared to another 2 headlines in this page.  The photo is in rectangular shape and very dominant and lastly the modular page design is in rectangular units.

In my opinion, the page design for this newspaper is good but if a liftout quote is added, then readers will be attracted more to read the whole news. Furthermore, the arrangement of the news looks neat and the readers can read and understand easily.

It's a tabloid newspaper. First of all, the headline of the story was located on the left side while the art was on the right. This combination was perfectly designed as it has a link up story between them. The art itself content a little bit explaination about the headline and this could give a rough idea to the reader to go further about the story. I like for the first sight I jumped to this page as the design was simple and there was a clear white space in between of the text. This could give a breath for a reader to understand the content as its an educational type of story that need a little understanding about it.

Next, it has 5 columns in horizontally. The 2 columns were located under the headline and the other 3 columns were put under the art (picture). Both of the division were divided in a fair and square. Besides, it also used a red colour handwriting to certain text in purposely to enlighten the most important part so that the reader could alarmed about the dangerous of "Pass Out Game". All of this columns were written in short and simple way to avoid reader getting bored from the long explaination and it gives a neat look and well designed for this page. 

However, the other story has an inverted design compared to the above story. The headline was on the right and the main art (picture) was on the left. This is a kind of perfect page design to give a different view to the reader to go through to the story. It only has 2 columns for the content and there's a quotation under the mugshot picture to tell the owner of the speech instead of fulfilling the blank space on that side. This kind of variety art design could attract the reader's attention instead of the content itself. The caption under the picture is being delivered nicely to explain what its all about. 

In conclusion, I could say that Berita Harian is one of the well designed local newspaper as it has a very light, neat and clear design to grab the reader's attention. This is because, most of the local newspaper likely used the extra of content and design that finally give a messy result and even a worst view to the reader. Make it bold and simple as long as the content is there. Lastly, the most important is I like to say that the story design or content is the crucial part to produce the best page design. In other words, it needs to be link up together. From the front page this Utusan Malaysia newspaper, we can see the headline of the story was located on the right side and be bold. But we as a reader, will be confuse because we don’t know what the story that they want to focus on. As we can see, they put “Dua Militan Maut” in a big size of font and be bold, so we will consider that was a topic that they want to focus, but they also put a big picture on the left which is not related to the story on the right. Next, as we know, most broadsheet newspaper use 6 column grid but for front pages, broadsheet newspaper may use a variety of fonts and grids. Like this Utusan Malaysia newspaper. Besides that, in this front page of Utusan Malaysia newspaper, they also put some of the small headline story with page number, above the flag and below the image, may be it was one way to attract they reader. Lastly, what could I say, this page design is little bit crowded and turns out into a messy yet causing a confusion for the readers. That all, thank you.

I choose Harian Metro  newspaper. This newspaper is a local newspaper in Malaysia. Harian Metro is one of tabloid newspaper. This newspaper headline is big of size and the word is be bold. As we can see, this newspaper's headline is putted on the top of photo and text. 

This newspaper is roughly half the size of broadsheet. 
The column format is most common in tabloid but some paper use 7, 8, or even 9 column grids. 

In my opinion, the lay out of this newspaper is good form but the story is quite confuse for reader to understand what the topic that they want to focus on.

In my opinion, the page design of Malay Mail are very simple, attractive and organize nicely. Malay Mail emphasize and highlight the important news. This newspaper use page with art. It use big picture as dominant image which highlight the royal's wedding. As we know,the royal's wedding has prominence value in news. This newspaper also following the Modular Design. 

However, the page design also has bad side. The headline and the dominant image make readers confuse on the first impression because it seems related, but actually its not related. It still confusing the readers even though it has already put the page number.
