Julius Caesar, was a Roman dictator, politician, and military general who played a critical role in the events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire. Before his rule Rome underwent many civil wars with individuals fighting for control. He created jobs and granted land for the poor which helped him gain support from the lower class. In addition he extended Roman citizenship and conquered Gaul (France). However, other members of the senate saw him as a threat for power which lead to his assassination.
