To promote the Carts for the Arts, brochures will be designed, printed and essentially given away as a means to elicit the public into awareness. The purpose behind the visual material is simple. People like visuals, and learn and retain information much better when visual clues are involved. Visuals enhance learning especially when used in conjunction with reading and hearing, retention is raised by 20 % by visuals alone, but a combination is 40% higher (Shabiralyani et al. 2015). It makes sense to use these figures and promote the Cart through visual material: the brochure.

To start any session with special needs children and adults it is important to ascertain skill levels, the simplest and quickest way to achieve this is through an abstract project, which will allow for individual plans to be written. The reasoning behind an abstract painting/drawing is allow to judge how the person is able to draw lines, use colour, hold and use a brush and pencil. It also allows for decisions to be made regarding personal independence, whether some assistance is needed or one on one assistance is required. It will also show whether the ‘client’ has any tactile aversion which would also change the course of the planning.

The next step would be to choose a project that will allow for a range of abilities. A ‘self-portrait’ project has a range of levels that can be considered, paper collages for tactile aversion, pen/pencil/paint allows also for  full range of abilities, along with the use of a modelling medium (clay if facilities allow) which supports people who enjoy tactile engagement. The basis of a ‘self-portrait’ project is that it allows for self-expression, there will be a large sense of personal achievement and it achieves a level of life enrichment and self-awareness.

Throughout Australia, supported by the Australian Government are various cultural festivals. Each major city has an annual festival, with a visual arts and crafts subsection, but along with this are the smaller towns, such as Townsville Cultural Festival held this year on 17-21 August. These smaller venues would be an ideal situation to begin showcasing the art developed and produced by the local underprivileged artists in each specific area. For example, when the Cart visits northern Queensland the art would be showcased annually in the cultural festivals.
