“This idea is that we’re Nordics. I am, and you are, and you are, and ——” After an infinitesimal hesitation he included Daisy with a slight nod, and she winked at me again. “— And we’ve produced all the things that go to make civilization — oh, science and art, and all that. Do you see?”

 In the first chapter red was associated with Tom with being more of a bad guy in the story, with daisy and the bruise she has on her knuckles from tom.I feel in the first chapter of this book Tom looked like a very strong but opinionated person. With him declaring his thought on a book and showing that he discriminatory to other races besides his. Also with the fact that they say he has another girl it shows that he’s not very committed to his certain relationship, he also wasn’t even present for the birth of his child. It seems to me that Tom is a person with a big ego and he tries to prove that he is always right. He isn’t very concerned with others, very self centered when Daisy talks about being bruised the only thing he cares about is being called hulking and doesn't say anything about the bruise, which also might mean he could be aggressive in some sort of way.
