When I was in high school I played on the varsity basketball team and at the end of every practice we had to practice shooting ten free throws in a row. Depending on how many free throws we missed dictated how many laps we ran at the end of practice. We had to shoot in front of the entire team and there was much pressure.

In middle school I was a huge history nerd. Every year I competed in History Fair in the performance category. I would do so much research on my historical topic, create authentic props and clothing and perform as the historical figure I chose. To this day I still remember facts from the lives of my historical figures even though sometimes I can't even remember what I had for breakfast that morning.

I've been taking an industry course on using AI tools as part of user research. The course is brilliantly designed and taught by John Whalen, and he made it very hands-on. We got to design, run, and analyze a study together using four different (expensive) AI tools designed for user research. (Kathryn)

I trained powerlifting with people MUCH stronger than me, to avoid self-imposed (but none-the-less external "punishment") shame of loss when I got to the actual meet. Set a few records from this intensity, which was a reward I sought.

In my Comp class, my vocab quizzes were graded by my peers. Since spelling dictated my score, I often failed (this was before my dyslexia diagnosis), leading to me believing my friends would see me as stupid. So I would try to memorize the spelling more than other tests and assignments for the class. My test scores barely changed.

Learning a new hyperfixation by following whoever my ADHD brings me have consistently been so much more rewarding than seeking an external motivator of some kind. Most recently, I learned a new Star Wars card game simply because I wanted to.

As a HUGE mechanical keyboard enthusiast, one of the most meaningful learning experiences I’ve had came from participating in online mechanical keyboard communities. At first, I was just curious about customizing a board to fit my typing preferences. But through Reddit threads, Discord chats, and build streams on Twitch, I began to explore deeper layers of the hobby—switch lubing techniques, sound profiles, and soon to be soldering.

During high school, I didn't care much about grades (had a 3.4). So during my first year of college, I was terrified that I might not be able to study/get good grades. I worried about it for most of every day, all semester long. I did get A's and A-'s, but it was grueling.
