Why is it important to focus on making cities sustainable?

Cities, because of the amount of people living in such a small area, there is a great deal more of pollution in Urban Area. Along with the high levels of carbon dioxide, that's produced by the population in such a small space, the resources like fossil fuels and non- recyclables in cities affect the pollution the most. Living in such close quarters in urban areas, sometimes there just isn't room to plant more trees or make a compost pile.

Many cities now have community gardens that help provide food for the members of the community. In different countries, people are making buildings with plants covering all of the sides to keep the inside cool and decrease the carbon dioxide levels. The plants absorb the carbon dioxide in the air that is detrimental to our atmosphere. Without plants taking the carbon in the air and storing it back into the soil, to try to regain the balance that existed many years ago; before fossil fuels, the communities cannot be economically conscious and sustainable without putting more plants in the ground.
https://www.useful-community-development.org/environmental-sustainability.html
https://www.biologicaldiversity.org/programs/population_and_sustainability/sustainability/live_more_sustainably.html
