In order to ensure that our young Campus Journalists will have the confidence and skills needed in performing their tasks in the field, we, SPA's should also have the equal capacity and knowledge to train them.

This kind of trainings will enable us to acquire suffiecient skills and capabilities to open doors of opportunities for young journalists in reaching and leading the community to awareness of facts and real community scenarios which will empower them in leading the formulation of possible solutions.

My Insights on the Development of IM in Campus Journalism

I have to admit that at first, I am Reluctant and worried about the webinar. for the reason that by January 2023, I'll be retiring. But soon I realized that i must attend and be sure to learn for the sake of the young journalists in our school.

It is a shame to leave them without giving the updated lecture that I can learn through this webinar.

I just hope that I can face the challenges and once more these journalists can compete and win.

It is unfortunate, but in this day and age, Filipinos tend to use social media as their main source of information. It would've been okay if they know how to discern reliable from unreliable sources, truths from lies. However, with the current turn of events, we could see how this aspect among the Filipinos could still be improved.

In that sense, integrating campus journalism into our school curriculum could just be the cure to misinformation and fake news. Here, the students will be able to acquire the research skills and the ethics of journalists when they come across certain pieces of information.

This session gave us a comprehensive information on how to develop the instructional materials for campus journalism by handing the factors to be considered in developing a material. First is to understand the individual needs and learning styles. We cannot fully relate with our journalist if we don't really know them nor their style in writing. It is important to understand and meet their learning styles for us to provide their needs. Second, considering the materials that support learning objectives. All of the instructional materials should have an objective and to attain it after finishing the material given. And lastly, a material should be clear and accessible. Not every student can have an access to internet or even gadgets, it is our duty to check and verify the accessibility and clarity of the instructional material before publishing it to the public.

The same thing applies in the field of campus journalism. This pandemic greatly affects the formal set up in education but definitely did not stop our students from learning.

In developing instructional materials for campus journalism, there are factors to be considered: individual needs and learning styles, assurance that the materials support the learning objectives, and clarity and accessibility of the materials. The materials should also follow the nine stages of the KEMP instructional design model. Another good thing is students are being exposed in learning English/Filipino and task-based learning approach (teachers ask their students to perform tasks that resemble authentic, “real-life” situations).
Using these materials, our young journalists will continue to develop their communication medium and compose a good writing.
