Louisa May Alcott's novel Little Women tells the story of the four March girls as they make the transition to womanhood and struggle to conform to society's strict ideals of femininity in the midst of poverty. The story is set in 1860s Massachusetts during the Civil War and is loosely based on Alcott's own childhood.

https://dp.la/primary-source-sets/little-women-by-louisa-may-alcott

Based on her recollections of her own childhood, Little Women describes the domestic adventures of a New England family of modest means but optimistic outlook. The book traces the differing personalities and fortunes of four sisters (Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March) as they emerge from childhood and encounter the vicissitudes of employment, society, and marriage. Little Women created a realistic but wholesome picture of family life with which younger readers could easily identify.

https://www.britannica.com/biography/Louisa-May-Alcott

The sisters in the book are modelled on Alcott's own siblings, May, Elizabeth and Anna, who appear respectively as Amy, Beth and Meg; Alcott hereself is the model for Jo.

(information from the book)

All of the girls or so called 'little woman' love their parents dearly.

Margaret (Meg) - eldest of four, 16 years old. Very pretty plump and fair, with large eyes, soft brown hair and a sweet mouth. Often gives lecture in elder-sisterly fashion. Thinks too much of her looks and hates to work. Has a voice like a flute.

Jo - 15 years old, very tall, thin with long, brown hair and long limbs she doesn't know what to do with. She is boyish and would rather to go and fight with her father rather than knit ant home as a poky old woman.

Elizabeth (Beth) - teen with a shy manner, a timid voice and a timid expression. She seems to live happily in her own world, venturing out only to meet her loved ones. Beth is the one who does all the dishwashing and dusting. Good at playing the piano.

Amy - youngest of all, regular snow maiden, blue eyes, yellow curling hair, pale and slender. Carries herself like a young lady mindful of her manners. Meg says she is particular and prim, has nice manners and refined ways of speaking.

Mrs. March - mother of the four girls, caring and loving, sings like a lark.

She feels flustered and liked it, but after replying she found out it was all a prank set up by her friend. Laurie gets scolded and begs forgiveness. Old Mr Laurence gets cross because Laurie isn't telling him the reason due to which he was called to the March house. They both get into an argument. Jo feels a little bitter and decides to meet Laurie. She finds out about the argument and helps the two to get back on the right side. Meg, Jo, Laurie and Mrs March decide to keep the matter private and not disclose the letter incident. It seems everyone has forgotten it, but Meg still remembers. It is highly likely that Meg is developing feelings for Jhon, but she doesn't want to leave her family this early.
