Dorothy, Toto and the Scarecrow continue their journey to the Emerald City. The road was tough, dangerous, but they did not give up, and they kept going. After a long journey, they stopped to rest. They sit on the side of the road, near a small stream. Dorothy opens a basket of bread and invites the scarecrow to eat it, but the scarecrow refuses because he has never been hungry. Dorothy then tells the scarecrow about Kansas, the gray place she lived, and how she came here. The scarecrow wonders why Dorothy would want to leave this beautiful country and go back to that gray place. Dorothy explains that because the scarecrow doesn't have a brain. For Dorothy, it was the most beautiful place because it was her home. After the conversation, they left again. In the evening, they passed through a large forest. The scarecrow led people through yellow roads, through houses. And they stopped at a little house, and they slept there until the next morning.

The streets were lined with beautiful houses all built of green marble and studded everywhere with sparkling emeralds. There were many people--men, women, and children--walking about, and these were all dressed in green clothes and had greenish skins. After the soldiers told Oz about their wishes, they was served quite good in their own room. The next morning, they met Oz to present their wishes, but Oz wanted they to destroy the Wicked Witch of the West so he would do their wishes.

Wicked Witch of the West had but one eye, yet that was as powerful as a telescope, and could see everywhere. So, as she sat in the door of her castle, she happened to look around and saw Dorothy and her companions. She called the wolves to destroy them, but the Woodman with his strength knocked out all of the wolves. Then she called a great flock of wild crows, but the Scarecrow destroyed them. She was tremendously angry, and she called the black bees, but with the trick of Scarecrow, the black bees couldn’t attack them. Finally, she called the Winged Monkeys to fight for her. Those monkeys were really strong, and they couldn’t do anything. Woodman and Scarecrow were destroyed, meanwhile Dorothy, Toto and the Lion was brought to her castle to slave for her.

After that, Dorothy and friends followed the Guardian of the Gates into the Emerald City. They were warmly welcomed by everyone, except Oz. After being threatened, Oz invited them into Throne Zoom the next morning. The next day, Dorothy and her friends came to ask Oz to fulfill their wish but Oz was very hesitant. That made the Lion think of scaring Oz. When he roared loudly, Toto got scared and knocked over the screen in the corner of the room. Surprisingly, behind the screen is the real Oz - a little old man, with a bald head and a wrinkled face. After that, Oz told and explained everything about him. Dorothy and her friends are disappointed that Oz cannot grant their wish because he has no magic. But then Oz made an appointment with them tomorrow and he promised to give them what they wanted.

Oz was thinking of a way to make a balloon and decided to go with Dorothy. Then they made a balloon together. After a few days, a colorful balloon was completed by Oz and Dorothy. When it was all done, Oz informed his people that he was going to visit his brother in England. And then the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Lion gradually feel satisfied with their present lives while Dorothy just wants to go home to Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. When they appeared, Dorothy expressed her desire, but unfortunately, the Winged Monkeys couldn't do it. Next, Dorothy sought the help of the soldier but he couldn't either. Finally, Dorothy went to find the witch Glinda to ask her help at the suggestion of the soldier. It is surprising that all of Dorothy's friends decided to go with her.
