I think the prep time would be ten years because you can't start a revolution immediately. First off, the ingredients would be the arrogant or harsh ruler of the kingdom because the kings of the government would govern the revolution. Then, it would be the determined soldiers, who would do anything for their country. After that, you would need a motive to start a revolution, for example, a foreign country wants to take over the power of your country, and the arrogant ruler is allowing many citizens into poverty due to taxes, bills, etc. Maybe the other country would want to show that they have better rulers, and could help the citizens out of poverty, and more power because the ruler is selfish and greedy. Lastly, you would need a date and time to execute a revolution, and revolutions don't last only one war. Make sure you really... really hate your ruler, then find people who feel the same way. Discuss, have meetings, and make sure you are on the same page of wanting a revolution. You may feel happy because you have more people, but that's not all. You need to train and gather people in the hundreds of thousands. Give the ruler a few more warnings. If he/she does not listen... execute the revolution.

There could also be poverty and lack of freedom under that harsh ruler and difficult living situations and the country could be falling apart which calls for a revolution in some cases. It would be a four layer cake, each layer signifying a part of the revolution. The bottom layer would be the problem that's been in the brewing for a while, the second layer would be people beginning to pay more attention to the problem/spreading word, the third layer would be the conflict itself and the top layer would be the aftermath of the conflict. 
It would take about 3 - 5 years to prepare then about another 5 years to actually bake excluding cool down. In extreme cases, i.e more layers of cake, it takes over 10 years to bake without the cool down.
The ingredients would be everything that comes with a conflict; poverty, unfair conditions, lack of justice and much more.
Directions: 
- mix about 5 years of pressing problems
- don't forget to add a little leisure time for when people do begin to realize the importance of the problem
- add the spices of the actual revolution(5 years of more mixing ofcourse)
- bake at the very uncomfortable and scorching temperature of 450 degrees.
- watch and see the cake get burnt:)
