In my first hospital rotation I initially felt scared and excited. The first rotation was in the semi-intensive neonatal so I was much more afraid of doing something wrong. A few days after starting I felt comfortable and always wanted to learn something new. The nurses in the ward helped me and thanks to them I had a wonderful experience.

Recording Unit 4: This recording explains what to do during a resuscitation procedure. A paramedic explains to a nurse what to do in this situation. I made my decision to become a nurse during my last year of high school. I have always had an interest in helping my friends at school but also outside. My teachers helped me to choose to become a nurse because they noticed my attitude. I would like to be a nurse to help people and children who need assistance. I would be someone they can rely on and who can they trust in. I love the nursing profession, I think it is one of the most beautiful job in the world. My family also helped me to make my decision because they believe that being a nurse is one of the most commendable jobs.

Becoming a good nurse is hard work. The characteristics to become one are acquired with time of experience. To be a good nurse the most important characteristic is to be empathetic. Empathy can make you connect with the patient and understand what they really need. A good nurse has to be kind, so that the patient can trust her completely. She has to be able to be as clear as possible in explaining the procedures to the patient so as to be able to obtain his collaboration. I hope to become a good nurse because these characteristics that I have just listed are the main ones that I focus on during my work. I guess I have many of those skills because in all the situations I face with I try to identify me with the patient trying to understand what I would want if I were in his shoes. I believe that the internship is also a good opportunity to develop all these characteristics. I also believe it is essential for patients to have a good nurse with them to receive excellent care.

"Pets come to visit".

The article uses the example of the story of a nurse who during the birth of her twins the only thing she wanted was to see her dog. Her doctor allowed her to see the dog at the hospital entrance and she explains how this helped her more than a drug. Some studies have shown how animals can reduce anxiety and help patients recover faster. It has been observed in many hospital how visits to patients by their pets has helped their recovery and emotional state. Thanks to these surveys it was decided to increase the possibility of visits by pets in order to help patients from a therapeutic point of view. Many people believed that this type of practice could negatively affect the health of patients, for example some think that pets can transmit more diseases. All this has been studied and assessed as untrue. In fact, every animal undergoes checks before entering the hospital and after this, if everything is perfect, they are granted access.

In my future I imagine working in a pediatric palliative care facility. I really like the topic and the work. I think it is an opportunity to improve the quality of life of children with difficult pathologies. It is a very difficult job emotionally, but I believe that with the right attitude you can do a good job. In these facilities there are children with complex pathologies, so many times the job involves assisting them at the end of life. This would be my dream, I hope to make it come true.

One of the experiences that I liked the most was in the oncology department. In this department my tutor taught me empathy for patients and the importance of always talking to patients and their parents. This experience also taught me many procedures with the teaching of my tutor. It was very emotionally demanding, but also very beautiful. In these departments you learn a lot about the work of a nurse, thanks to the therapies of the patients and the procedures they have to perform. Another important side of the work of a nurse is talking a lot with the patient, asking how they feel about the pathology and asking them if they need anything. I think this is one of the most beautiful jobs and this department made me understand that it is my path.
