the Maroons are African descendants that escaped from their owners and made a new life on the mountains. In there, they formed either bands or armed camps. They made villages and joined the local aboriginal people where they mixed and formed distinctive creole cultures. When their owners took more land and the maroon started losing ground, they started raiding plantations and harassed the planters to the point where they started fearing slave revolts.
