This is a very useful resource and website, which integrates technology into multiple choice and true/false assessments.  Kahoot is a game-based classroom response system.  I like that it can be used to check for student understanding, review, practice, and proctor assessments (formative and summative).  Students can access the website by using cell phones, iPads, or laptops.  Kahoot is an effective, efficient, and engaging way to assess student understanding.  This could be a great way to integrate technology into curriculum and engage students into the learning process. I have used Kahoot with my own students for formative assessments. In the future, I will use this tool to pre-assess students before a new unit. 

There are both strengths and weaknesses regarding this web tool.  I like that this website offers already created assessments that teachers can easily use.  However, I also like that a teacher can create their own assessments and questions to meet the needs of their state’s standards, district’s standards, and students’ needs. Another strength that Kahoot has is that it can be used for any subject area.  (science, music, art, gym, math, social studies, reading, writing, etc.) This website is a great tool for teachers to use for differentiation and assessment because it immediately collects data from every student during the session.  Teachers can use this data to plan future lessons or to group students based on readiness.  Another strength is that it engages students.  For example, my students think of this website as a game instead of an assessment.  They love it!

Another web tool that offers appropriate assessment models is an app called Plickers.  This can be used for multiple-choice assessments. This is a tool that enables teachers to collect formative assessment data without the need for student devices.   Each student receives a piece of paper with a unique barcode that only they will receive.  On each side of the barcode, it is lettered “A” through “D.”  The teacher asks the class a question, and the students hold up the card in front of them with the letter for their answer on top.  The teacher then uses the app and scans the room with the camera.  The app automatically collects/records data from each student and inputs it into a graph. One
strength is that a teacher can incorporate technology into assessments and receive quick feedback from students without needing a laptop, iPad, or iPhone for every student.  It is perfect for a one-device classroom because the teacher is the only person who needs an iPad or iPhone to collect data from the students. This is a formative assessment resource.  One obvious strength is that it allows the teacher to use various types of assessments to check for understanding.  You can create a multiple-choice, short answer, true or false, or essay assessment through this website.  I’ve found many websites and apps that offer clicker assessments through true/false or multiple-choice questions but never short answer or essay questions.  In addition, students are able to answer questions at their own pace.  The clickers that my district purchased require all students to answer questions at the same time.  Sometimes I feel like my assessment data isn’t as accurate as it should be because some of my students feel rushed.  I like that this tool allows students to answer questions at their own pace.  It also has an exit ticket option, which is perfect for a quick formative assessment. 

Since I see all of the kids in the entire school, this allows me to quickly receive immediate feedback and data regarding student understanding.  

I recently used the game feature to assess my students’ understanding about the life cycle of a chicken.  I like that the game groups students randomly and then asks questions.  This is an engaging assessment for students because it makes it seem more like a game since they are trying to win the most points as a team.  In addition, this game also has a wonderful feature that enables the teacher to see a student’s individual response.
