Many other Native people followed this, like Dr. Arthur C. Parker and Rev. Sherman Coolidge, who had efforts to give Native Americans justice. Decades later, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed an American Indian week sponsored by Se. Alan Cranston. But a week was not all the Native people wanted. In 1990, Rep. Faleomavaega sponsored a house joint resolution authorizing and requesting Sr. George Bush to create a Native American month. The government decided to hold it in November because that is where the famous holiday, Thanksgiving, is dated.

More than 4 in 5 American Indian and Alaska Native women have been a brutal target of violence, and more than 1 in 2 have experienced sexual violence. On some reservations, Native women have been murdered more than ten times as much as women in America on average. The government sees these disrespectful acts, but do nothing to reverse them.

Because of the political power, Indigenous people have been a large target to landing in jail, prison, or even going straight to the death sentence for committing any suspicious activity. Most might not even need such harsh punishment. They are shunned for expressing their culture, and some shown forceful assimilation. Still, many non-indigenous citizens are blinded by the thought that they stand on once native people's land . Some would make fun of their culture and then wear it for Halloween. This has been going on for too long. We need to make a change!

Some programs include donations, protests, or just spreading awareness of the legal system, women's rights, land rights, sacred land rights, and many more. Thankfully, even with some taking up to 30 years, these programs have led to many accomplishments. Even greater success is when the UN General Assembly, was able to adopt the UN Declaration on Rights of Indigenous people. On top of that, Indian County today reported six Native American House candidates won their respective races, meaning the 117th Congress will have more Native Americans than any previous Congress. So there have been many successes, but Natives are still on the hunt for equality.
