	Why UDL- Develop your “TED Talk/Elevator Speech” on why UDL. Include the variability of the learner based on neurology and an example that runs through all 3 principles

I vividly remember standing in the classroom as I watched the math teacher provide two examples of the new concept on his whiteboard. As soon as he was done, and just before he headed to his desk at the back of the room, he asked if there were any questions and that they needed to complete all the odd problems. Interestingly enough, there were never any questions. Yet, within just a few minutes, a few brave students would interrupt him as he graded papers from his previous class, to ask for help. Others, however, simply leaned over to the student next to them. It was safer that way, it saved them from the inevitable question, "Didn't you pay attention when I went over this?"
There's a better way to do this, in fact it was happening right next door. Before Universal Design for Learning had taken off like wildfire in classrooms across the nation, many educators like Mrs. May understood that prealgebra could be an experience versus an example. Her students spent countless hours playing with algebraic expressions and then transferring the expression and solution onto paper.
