The Judicial Branch interprets the nation's laws, and settles the arguments  between the states. Also protects the Constitution, the Supreme Court has 9 judges. Including the chief justice, justices serve for life. The powers of the Judicial Branch are that they can overrule the unconstitutional laws. They can also review and add comments to treaties, interpret laws, judge impeachment trials. Checks and balances make sure no one has to much power, if there's a law that the president agrees on but it conflicts the Constitution. They send it to court and the Judicial Branch gets to decided if it's Constitutional or not. The powers of the different branches balanced, if the president agrees on but the Congress does not . But the president has to have Congress approve those laws. So there powers balance them, other examples of checks and balances are impeachment. If someone from the branches use there power in a wrong way the Congress can impeach them.
