He was born on July 8th, 1839 in Richfield, NY. He built his first oil refinery when he was 31, and he had nearly monopolized the oil business by the time he was 43.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This was the company that he started that produced, refined, and marketed oil. Its success skyrocketed right away, as it was near Pittsburgh, a major city at the time. The success of this company caused competing oil companies too start up, a,d the oil business spread ac cross the country. His company ended up controlling 90-95% of the oil business in North America. This monopoly was beginning to be viewed as excessive, and so the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 was passed, in which the company had to divest its major holdings. Throughout the years many people have to tried to buy the company, and as of today it is owned by BP, Exxon, Mobil, and other oil companies. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In his lifetime he donated over $500,000,000 to various charities. Originally he donated mostly to religious causes, but his donations expanded as time went on. He helped whoever he could. He gave $600,000 to what became the University of Chicago. By the time of his lat contribution, he had given more than $35 million dollars to the college. He also created the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, which ended up being incredibly influential in the field of biomedical research.</div>]]></description>
