The study found that 15% of Vietnam War veterans suffer from PTSD. Vietnam War veterans are said to still suffer from PTSD 40 years after the war. Another study was completed in 2013 pertaining to PTSD among Vietnam War veterans. About 1/3 of veterans that have PTSD are reported to have substance abuse problems. This may be a result of them thinking that they can self medicate leading to drug or alcohol addictions.

More than half of the veterans said to have PTSD have reported that they suffer from musculoskeletal conditions. Also, almost 1/3 of the veterans have reported circulatory and nervous system diseases (e.g. arthritis and deafness). But the PTSD some of these veterans were dealing with would affect their children too.
