I am also more interested in this topic because I am a women in the modern world who is also on birth control and I know there is many rumors about taking birth control and I wondered where these rumors stemmed from.

The databases I used

Project muse

ProQuest Historical New York times

JSTOR

This article describes the preconceptions on why birth control is seen as a disgrace. I would use this lecture to describe how double standards have always been put on women and the law to enforce sexual equality and freedom for women is overseen and labeled as "sluts," whereas men are not slut shamed. I would also use it to say it helps unwanted pregnancies not only are abortions hard to get emotionally and physically but in most states in the US it is illegal and taking birth control will help with unwanted pregnancies. This article is also useful for younger students to read and understand the views and double standards of birth control that still stand today. This source is from Project Muse database or "birth control."

Gordon, L. (2012).

This article describes the way pregnancy was prevented in the older days of history, which the most effective and promising way was abstinence because there was no pill or condom, and they had very little knowledge of a period and ovulation. Throughout the article, it talks about how every method, even in modern medicine, has flaws and nothing 100% prevents an unwanted pregnancy/ failed contraception. I would use this article for students to read and write up about the importance of it because it tells you the consequences of having an unwanted child, the consequences to the parents mentally and physically, and the child itself. This article not only helps people see the understanding of birth control today but also the effects of these failed contraceptives and the laws against abortions. I found this article on Project Muse when searching for "Birth control" articles.

Hardin, G. (1966).
"Birth- Control Backlash: Years of litigation and agitation have left America in the dark ages of contraception" - New York Times, December 16, 1990

This article describes the backlash of the pill and Norplant's new injection of birth control that can be injected every five years to prevent unwanted pregnancies. It also describes how many don't know what to do because unwanted pregnancies were so high at the time and yet these new contraceptives were coming out and women wouldn't take them because of the little research done on all birth controls. I would use this lecture to explain to students why there is still a negative outlook on birth control, except for condoms. I would also use this lecture to point out how birth control these days is different and how sex education never teaches you about contraceptives other than condoms to prevent STDs, just as this article points out. I found this item by searching for the terms "birth control" and "backlash" in the database.

BY PHILIP, J. H. (1990, Dec 16).

This newspaper article describes the confidentiality of minors and their medical records, normally when a child goes to the doctor or therapist the doctor must disclose to the parents that they prescribe them medicine and any medical conditions have to be addressed to the parents to get approval. This newspaper describes how planned parenthood clinics are not following this rule because they would rather have sexually active children be safe and prevent teen pregnancies, and not have to worry about their parents finding out. I would use this lecture to get the students' opinion on such matters and to also teach them that this is a right that they have today, so they know there are services/ clinics to help them be sexually safe. I found this item by looking for the terms "clinics" and "birth control" in the database.

By, S. G. (1983, Feb 13).

This newspaper article gives the perceptive of church backing to birth control and how God's plan is in support of birth control. I would use this newspaper article to help show students that even religious groups are supporting the use of birth control. I would include how this article goes on to say that the bible and the followers of the bible often follow the traditional ways of the Christian truth, but the bible is hard to take into everyday life because it is not changing to the modern world. I found this article by looking for the terms "Christian" and "birth control" in the New York database.

By, G. D. (1959, Oct 07).

This article talks about one type of birth control called the "withdrawal method," which in modern-day medicine is one of the least effective ways of birth control. This article describes the ideas of the withdrawal method how people in Britain preferred it over condoms and how people would think that if a pregnancy occurred it was just a slip-up and not how the method itself was a failure. This article would be useful article to teach children more about sex education and why this method is not best advised and is highly flawed in today's world.

This article talks about the irreversible method of birth control which is sterilizing a woman, and how minority groups, many Blacks and Hispanics, were unknowingly being sterilized, without their known consent. This article talks about how a child unknowingly got sterilized because the mother couldn't read a document and unknowingly, without her consent, marked an X to sterilize her and the doctors didn't cite this to her. I would use this article to talk about how minority groups, mainly Blacks and Hispanics, are oppressed and the history of how they were unknowingly sacrificed.
