The collage shows my progress in the beginning of Art 1. I see a little growth in my artwork so far. I can see from my first face drawing and my last that I have a little more detail.

Q1 Reflection

So far I have made a little progress in the first quarter. I am not the best artist. I try to add a little more detail than I did at the beginning. I think the class is going good so far. I have a lot to learn. In the 2nd quarter I want to try to take my time and not rush and keep trying to get better.

Artistic Inspiration

What I learned from watching and understanding Heather Hansen's work was that art can be anything, even moving around on a piece of paper. When we used chalk outside I realized art does not have to be so professional. It can literally be anything.

Q1 Technique Development

I learned that line weight can add emotion to a drawing. Like in my stop sign and yield picture. The word stop and yield are darker like you are yelling stop. Contour and cross contour can add depth to a drawing. Observational drawings are what we see.

Still Life Composition

We learned that a still life is drawing arranged objects. Techniques used for still life composition include light and shadow. The item I brought was my Old South hat because it is my favorite hat. I was focused on trying to add depth to make it look like a hat. I tried to shade some areas, but it didn't work out right.

My object was a hat. The techniques I used were line weight and shadowing to try to have depth. I learned that it is not easy to add depth the way I wanted to. The picture did not look totally like a hat because I couldn't get the depth right. This is an area that I can improve on.

Line Weight

I chose to draw a house that shows how I learned to use line weight. I put darker lines on the pathway in front of the house to show line weight in my picture. I learned that having lines of different shades can change the way someone looks at a picture. Since the sidewalk is darker my eyes go to that first and not the house.
