My top option was Premier Pro as I know that that is a professional editing site that is also being used to edit many movies and music videos. It has a lot of features which can ensure I get a good and acceptable result. However, it can be expensive if you pay for it yourself, and for a while it was free through my college but after, for some reason it was no longer free so I knew I needed to find a good replacement.

After talking to some people, another option for me to use was IMovie however, I was not very confident with it and I knew that I would need to go though many tutorials once again.

Another option was CapCut for desktop and this ended up being the option I went for as I have a friend who works as a professional Editor and a I have seen him work with Capcut and I knew that I could directly ask him any questions I had so this ended up being my final choice and the software I finished the video with

This is one of the most important as an editor works completely on a computer. But they mainly need to have skills with an editing software. I have some computer skills but I know I can get better especially with editing

Organisation skills

An editor must be able to organise their schedule so that they can submit the video on time and maybe even leave extra time just in case something may go wrong. I have organisation skills however, I’m not very good at following them.

Communication skills

An editor must communicate with the director and the camera operator to get the best results. They must talk with a camera operator to make sure that the shots can be connected and they need to communicate with the director to make sure that they are making everything the way the director wants or even better. In my case, I’m both Director and editor so I just need to communicate with the camera operator

Self motivation

Editing videos can take hours up to days and to get the best results, the editor must be motivated. And if they’re not motivated, it can take longer than needed and the editor may be brought off of the schedule. I’m very excited to do the editing for my groups music videos so I think that I’ll do quite well with this.

Creativity and visualisation skills

An editor must be able to visualise their completed projects. When a director explains the editor their idea, the editor must be able to recreate the idea. However, sometimes, the director makes another simply sketched version of the music video so that the editor doesn’t need to remember everything from memory. In my case, we are recreating the music video as similarly as we can, so we have the look of the final product already set.

Storytelling abilities

It is a director's job to figure out how to explain a story through a video, but it is an editor's Job to express the Directors idea through a cut and edited version of the many, many videos sent to the Editor.​

Ability to work well with others

An editor must work with a number of people to get the end product, to look as the director had planned.​ I am overall quite good at working with others as I'm quite compassionate.

Ability to adapt

An editor must be able to adapt in case something happens with an editing site or in case they lose some of the footage. I am somewhat good at this however, I do with to improve as a lot of the time, I tend to panic when something bad happens.

This is a sped up video of me editing the video as my group got the first few clips done. Throughout this time, I was watching multiple tutorials about how to do certain aspects such as zooming in and out or even how to block out objects as there was a point in this where I realised that in a overly good shot, 2 of the lights were showing, therefore I looked at many tutorials to figure out the best way to block them out as well as overall just experimenting with how to make it even more realistic.

Decision Making

As a director, I need to have to be the person to make the final decisions. Although a director usually gets the views of the others in the team. The views may be divided so I need to be the one to make the final decision.

I feel like I need to work on this soft skill as I’ve always been indecisive.

Creativity

This is another skill that I already have as I’ve always been very imaginative and I can easily think of how to do things

Management skills

I think I need to improve on this skill as I currently struggle to set goals, however I also know the skills of my group very well so I know what things we as a group need to improve the most

Adaptability

I can adapt to situations quite easily, however, I am very influenced by other people as I don’t want to disappoint anyone. However, I also get stressed when things don’t go my way

Analytical skills

A director needs to be able to analyse scripts, music, books and so on. In terms of analysing what I need to do to make something looks good or accurate, I’d say that I’m good at it.

Emotional intelligence

In terms of understanding others emotions, I can read faces and movements really easily to know if someone is happy, sad and angry

Interpersonal Communication

This is one skill I know that I need to improve on as I know that I struggle to explain things, but this is also a very important skill as without it, the video is guaranteed to come out bad

Problem solving solving skills

I’d say that I have very good problem solving skills. A director would need to be able to quickly come up with solutions such as bad weather or people not showing up or being sick or missing equipment

Leadership

A director is usually the head of the production, they have to be able to tell everyone what they want and need them to do, plus without leadership, it would be very chaotic. I think that this is a skill I already have

Organisation

This would also depend on all the other team members. As the director (or a designated person) would need to plan out the schedule and if someone in the group suddenly can’t make it, then they would need to move around the schedule to make sure that everyone who is needed to be there is actually there. Also so that it’s easier for the editor to put everything together, it’s good to stay to a plan and write down what shots were caught in the plan.
