Someone I would like people to know is Celia Cruz, a very famous Afro-Latina singer. I grew up listening to their most famous songs like "La vida es un carnaval" which translates to "life is a carnival." It brought visibility to the Caribbean people and their daily expressions, a characteristic phrase of hers is “Azúcar!” that highlights coffee originating from Cuba, the culture and history while educating about enslaved people on Cuban sugar plantations.

SZA is a singer/song writer who makes rnb music. I chose her because her lyrics are very relatable and I find them to really express the anger only a woman can feel. My favorite album of hers is the "CTRL" album where she talks about wanting to be a normal girl and wanting to be the type of girl her parents can be proud of. A lot of her songs in that album also reference misogyny. Along with having powerful lyrics they wouldn't mean anything without her way of singing them. SZA's voice is very empowering and full of emotion which make the lyrics more impactful. She is also very humble and always talks about spreading love instead of hate along with preaching about self love. She ranges in not only rnb but in pop and rap as well. A song I recommend to everyone would be "Normal Girl".

Of the incident, Iverson said: "For me to be in a bowling alley where everybody in the whole place know who I am and be crackin' people upside the head with chairs and think nothin' gonna happen? Kelvin Kiptum was a professional runner and recently broke the world record for the marathon with a time of 2 hours and 35 seconds. He started running when he was 13 years old and he has gotten so far with his career. I chose him because I was always watching his progress videos and his interviews with people on social media platforms and I was really inspired to keep running and to get faster as I was running my races for cross country. He is really important to many people because he serves as an inspiration to many runners who want to go somewhere with running. He died yesterday in a car crash in Kenya with his coach.

As a freshman in college, she ran a 10.75 100m and broke "100 m collegiate record at the NCAA Division I Championships". She also became one of the top 10 fastest women in history at only 19 years old. But she didnt stop there. She PRed again with a time of 10.72 seconds making her one of the 6 fastest women of all time. Then in the Summer Olympics last year (2023) she ran 10.65 and also.. yk.... winning gold! I chose her becuase she is just so strong and an icon, and she motivates and inspires me to push myself. I also feel like professional track runners, especially professional female track runners, dont get enough hype when what they are doing and how hard they train is insanely hard!

Despite being blind, he persevered through hardship and struggle, he is now one of the most famous pianist in the world. A very inspiring figure of mine that inspired me to peruse astrophysics is Neil DeGrasse Tyson. His work and personality was so valuable to me that I didn't even notice that he was African-American until I saw his photo on display at an event on Black History Month in 5th grade.

Dr. Tyson does, in fact, have a Ph.D and he has spoken out on even the most obvious things and is not afraid of poor media. In fact, when 3rd graders sent him horrible letters after he demoted Pluto, instead of throwing them away, he published some of them in his book and connected with the children. I think this should go on to show others that you shouldn't be afraid of criticism and instead figure out why these people think that way.

Although many people know of Rosa Parks for that movement, it actually originated from her work in boycotting on a public bus at age 15. However, it was because of her public image she was denied any recognition for her work, because she was seen as too "Black." Having civil rights leaders like MLK jr opting Rosa Parks instead to be the face of the movement. It's incredible to see her activism work starting at such a young age, and inspiring to see how kids like us have also been fighting for their rights even back 80 years ago even though the media doesn't highlight it.

The Black person who inspires me the most is Ms. Lauryn Hill. She was, and still is a singer-songwriter. She made R&B and Hip-Hop music in the 90's, and she is best known for her groundbreaking masterpiece "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill". The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is an album everyone needs to listen to before they die. I could go on for hours about how the album is an incredible anthem for Woman's rights, but I want to talk about the main reason I love her so much.
