He isolated a new molecule from cells and gave it the name of nuclein. He spent most of his career studying and yet him and other scientist couldn't recognize what was the importance of nuclein.

His work is important because thanks to him the discovery of DNA was clear. He technically gave all the other scientist a bonus with finding out and doing experiments/research and  he made it easier for them by giving them information so that the rest of the scientist could find more information about the double helix.
