Smartboards

Smartboards were a technology that I had never used before. During this class, I took time to explore different digital technology tools and dove deeper into this one in particular. This is a tool that can be so helpful within the classroom for students and teachers. I was unaware that they could actually interact with the information on the screen while solving the problem.

Virtual reality/ Augmented reality

Prior to this class, I was unaware of how far these digital tools had come. I knew you could play VR video games, but the fact that they can now be used in education, job training, and medicine is amazing. I wonder where this technology will go next!

Canvas, Google Classroom and Padlet

When I think of these spaces, I used to see them as digital platforms. I did not necessarily see them under the digital technology umbrella. Now that I have participated in this class, my perception of this term has changed so much that it seems so obvious that that is where they belong.

Kahoot

When I think of programs like Kahoot, I tend to put them in a category with other types of games. With further reflection, I can now understand why this is considered digital technology. It is utilized in educational settings, it can be used to collect data, and it is an interactive web-based tool.

I don't know about you, but when I look at a fridge, I don't think that's digital technology. Looking at this fridge now, I can clearly identify that a fridge like that has the power to connect to apps and potentially the internet itself. It collects data to help you keep your fridge stocked. It has the ability to assist with things like temperature control, energy management, and inform you if your food is about to expire.

Document Cameras

A document camera is something I have not used very many times within my classroom, and it is also not something I consider to be a piece of digital technology. While looking into it further, I quickly discovered I was wrong. It might not be the most impressive piece of technology, but it's a "low-tech tool" (Rankin, 2024) that can pack a punch!

Digital Scales

This was a piece of digital technology that I would have skipped right over prior to this course. Now, when I am thinking about digital tech, I am looking through each room in my house, looking at what apps I have on my phone or what apps are on my TV. When I was scanning my phone, I saw my digital scale app, and a light bulb went off. I would have never made that connection prior to this course. I can see this growth in so many areas of my life.
