People were believing that some were given the  devil's power to harm others in return for their loyalty. The purpose of the Salem witch trials was to accuse anyone that was suspected for using witchcraft and working with the devil. In the end, the Massachusetts General Court declared a day of fasting for the tragedy and the leading justice Samuel Sewall apologized for being involved in the trials.

Another important writing  was "The Salem Witch Trials: A Day by Day Chronicle of a Community Under Siege" by Marilynne K. Roach published in 2002, which explains about the details and the events of the Salem witch trials as they happened. The final piece of writing that came from the Salem witch trials was "Salem Possessed: The Social Origins of Witchcraft" by Paul Boyer and Steph Nissenbaum. Published in 1974, this book describes the social setting and history of Salem prior to the witch trials to provide a better understanding of how it happened.

Puritans settled in the colonies of Virginia, Massachusetts Bay, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania.

Williams argued that the Puritans were hypocrites and they remained within the Church of England rather than making a clean break. Williams moved between Boston, Salem, and Plymouth Colony winning followers and provoking controversy. He finally was banished from Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1635. Williams'  ideas about conscience decisively shaped the way that Americans understand and value religious liberty.

They are referred as Puritans because they are very strict about their sexual conduct and religion. The Puritans believed that there is only one religion and all other religions were related to Satan. The Puritans believed in equality so no one in church has higher power than another. They also believed that if there is a higher power, then there would be corruption among the church. This was why they moved from England to America.

He wanted to seek independence from the other Puritan sects. Him and his supporters established the first major colony in Hartford, Connecticut. He served as a pastor until his death. Hooker had no intentions of separating state and church.
