Cassia lost the one person she feels she can tell everything to. This took place in the hospital of the Community because once you hit a certain age you need extra supervision and care.

She realized this is much more than that as she runs to Ky and calls his name. Ky’s uncle explains how Ky will be taken away to the Outer Provinces to fight in war because they don’t have enough soldiers. The setting is important because it is in public with many people watching and confused. There is screaming from Ky’s aunt because she doesn’t want him to be taken away and die. This changes Cassia’s life because Ky is taken away from her and she has to find him. Xander’s life is changed too and so is the Markhams’ lives. They all lost Ky that night and Xander is helping Cassia find him.
