Observed from Earth, it is the second brightest planet in the sky, after Venus. Jupiter is known for its large red spot. This spot is about three and a half times the diameter of the Earth.

Jupiter's atmosphere is made up primarily of hydrogen and helium, just like the Sun. The planet's surface is covered with thick red, brown, yellow and white clouds.
