Try a Tiny Treasure Hunt!

You'll need to keep your eyes peeled for this activity. Hunt for really small things you can put into a matchbox when on your next walk. Collect little leaves, blades of grass, small snail shells, tiny twigs, feathers and pebbles. 

Turn it into a competition with your family - who can fit the most items inside their box?

You could take a magnifying glass with you to help children investigate their finds. Can they see intricate patterns, subtle colour changes and different textures?

Have a look at the Action for Happiness Calendar - specifically Optimistic October or New Ways November. 

There is a new action for you to try every day:

Take the challenge with your family eg. On Friday 5th it suggests you 'Change your normal routine today and notice how you feel'.

 On 20th Nov it suggests you 'Make a meal using a recipe or ingredient you've not tried before'.

The Scary Truth About Pumpkins!

With Halloween fast approaching it is worth considering that:

* 42% of people buy pumpkins every year in the UK

* 45% of these are thrown away as food waste

* 19% are added to the compost heap

* Only 33% of people cook the edible pumpkin they have carved out!

A whopping 18,000 tonnes of pumpkins are thrown away. That’s the same as 360 million portions of pumpkin pie!
