Michael and Lionel wrote this song to unite people. It urges us to save our world and help each other by working together as one. They wrote this song to show that a large group can help the less fortunate. Michael and Lionel appeal to listeners with lines like, "we are the world, we are the children." These words connect people to the song's ideas. They feel a strong urge to help, as most believe children cannot help themselves. This song connects to culture because during this time music was a large part of what pop culture and every life was. To be able to see all the very popular artists come together it sent a message to their listeners that they too needed to ban together for a greater cause. We Are The World values love and social responsibility. I wouldn't say there are stereotypes. But, they use more religious phrases, like "we're all a part of God's great big family." They want to connect God's love and will with helping each other and our children.

I agree with the artists in this song. We often see bad things happen and do nothing. We expect someone else to help or fix it. I love this song. They worked hard to unite many artists to prove a message. It wouldn't have come across the same if one or two people sang it. The message could have worked if the artists had promoted the song and the campaign. But the song alone would not have inspired many to donate. This song may appeal to some people but not others due to the identity of its creator and the content of the lyrics. Some may not have liked the artists or the genre. Others disliked the lyrics, which referenced God and the Bible.
