Travis can be considered spoiled, such as when we spoil our pet puppies. Because puppies look innocent and can get away with things. Referring to the scene where he asks for 50 cents. He is mostly spoiled by his father because Walter wants to be able to give something to his son. Walter wants Travis to have things but he doesn't have the money to afford all of it. "TRAVIS: You think Grandmama would have it?"

Travis symbolizes as the pure one from the family because he character is a child. He is still young, and hasn't really been able to see the world from the adults point of view. Travis is the only one in the Younger family who still has his head on his shoulders. He is considered innocent to the rest of his family, because Mama, Ruth, and Walter are all trying to give him the best and raise him the best they can. Mama is trying to give him a nice place to grow up. Walter and Ruth are trying to give him a better future. "Travis, come ("TRAVIS here. crosses WALTER and draws
him before him facing the man.) This is my son, and he makes
the sixth generation our family in this country. And we have all
thought about your offer —"

Travis is innocent during this whole situation of the house. He has a little understanding about racism because he is ten years of age. Although the adults are constantly arguing, they stop when he is in the room. Until Mama made him stay when Walter was about to make the wrong decision. Travis is the innocent one in this play because with out him there would be more chaos and they would have never found a solution. "MAMA (opening her eyes and looking WALTER'S,) into No: Travis, you stay right here. And you make him understand what you
doing, Walter Lee."

Travis symbolized part of glue, like Mama does. He plays a little part in keeping the family from losing their heads. Travis and Mama keep the family together like glue. Without the help of Travis, Mama would be in the same situation as the others, always arguing. But with travis, he is there to make the family remember why they need to calm down and act human again. When the adults argue, they stop when they see Travis as a sign of to remember why there needs action to be done instead of arguing.

Walter isn't really a good father figure to look up to at this moment. Because of Walter's bad habits of drinking and waisting money instead of making it. Travis tries to copy his father and the action Walter does like a parrot does when you teach it words.
"RUTH: You get your mind off money and eat your breakfast.
TRAVIS (eating): This is the morning suppose bring to the fifty cents to school.
RUTH: Well, I ain't got no fifty cents this morning. "

Travis is following Walter down the wrong path. Because Walter is going down a bad road and Travis is looking up to him and following down the same road. Travis mentions he wants to be a bus driver because he doesn't understand that he can have a much brighter future. "WALTER: Oh, abou at lot o things f . Such as when he is wanting the fifty cents from his mother, he tries to manipulate her into letting him have it or let him go work for it. Travis is smart for his age because he understands that he has to work for money. Travis is manipulative because he is still young and still learning. He is experiencing new things in the world, and in his situation with money he learns to become manipulative.
TRAVIS (presently): Could I maybe go carry some groceries front in of the supermarket for a little while after school then?
