Why do we forget some memories quickly, especially big ones? How do mental processes and emotions impact how long we remember a significant event? Does it have anything to do with psychoanalytic perspectives and blocking out certain memories? Is it interference? Does trama play a role in remembering positive memories?
To figure out why some peoples brains do this, I can conduct an experiment to see if people are more likely to remember positive or negative memories. I can also see if the positive memories they forgot had a negative element to them as well.
The study would use basic research because it would expand the knowledge of memory, not solve a problem.

From the research of cognitive psychology, we know a lot about how our brains remember and understand things. Concepts are things that help us remember memories. They are kind of like filing cabinets. Concepts can be objects, emotions, or people, while prototypes are more specific, best example of a concept. Since these things help us remember, it is very important that they exist. There are also two types of storing/encoding: effortful and automatic. Effortful encoding requires more effort, while automatic remembering happens on its own. Problem solved also very important in day-to-day life. Without good problem-solving skills, you run into way more problems than you need. Problem solving lets you be more self-sufficient. It’s important to think of good, smart solutions to problems.

1. Przez twe oczy zielone by Akcent (because of your green eyes): I heard this song at polish parties since I was born. One of the earliest memories I had from this song was at a New Year’s party where the dj told all the girls with green eyes to stand up and scream because this song is about them.
2. Firework by Katy Perry: I vividly remember watching the music video for the first time around age 7, even though it came out a few years before that. It was also very popular when it first came out in 2010 and that’s around the time I started remembering things.
3. Ruda tańczy jak szalona by Czadman (the red head is dancing like crazy): again, I don’t remember the first time I heard it because I was a baby, but if you’re polish and you don’t know every lyric to this song, what are you doing?
4. Steal my girl by one direction: I was obsessed with this song as a kid and now it’s very nostalgic and fun to me and I still remember the lyrics.
5. I’m just Ken by Ryan gosling: first time I heard this was in the Barbie movie and it didn’t get out of my head for days. Again if you don’t know every lyric, why?
