Although Saint Cecilia had vow of virginity, her parents forced her to marry with a pagan nobleman named Valerian.

 

St. Cecilia was buried in the Catacomb of Callixtus
 and later transferred to the Church of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere which is a 5^th   century church in Rome and is the place who is the body of Saint Cecilia.

In 1599, her body was found still incorrupt, seeming to be asleep.

In the Acts one can read in the text "Canténdibus órganis Cæcilia Dómino decantábat dicens...", something that the copyist transcribed as: "While the musical instruments played, Cecilia sang to the God saying...". It was not that 'organis', the musical instrument that was being talked about, but it was a term that in the third century was used to refer to the bellows that was used to provide heat, which means that it was an instrument of torture.

Since then, many images of Saint Cecilia playing the organ have been painted, when she was being subjected to excruciating torture. However, it was decided not to correct this error, and in 1594 Pope Gregory XII declared her patron saint of musicians.
