The 11th Airborne Division was a United States Army Airborne formation, therefore, all of the soldiers were from the United States. Since this division fought in the Philippines, this was not helpful that all of the soldiers were from the U.S, because they were not familiar with the battle grounds.

This division first started training in New Guinea on May 25, 1944, and left for the Philippians on November 11, 1944. After defeating Japanese parachutists, the 11th Airborne came in contact and joined with the 37th Infantry Division. They were then sent to Japan In July of 1945. The 11th Airborne defeated the Japs in the Philippians because of their combat actions. The soldiers took their time while fighting, taking breaks and resting through it all. They were sucessful, because they were in combat for 204 days and caused 2,431 casualties.

The 11th Airborne Division was also known as "The Angels". They were called "The Angles" because during the time of war, they were seen as being "angelic" humans since they fought for our country and saved many lives. They put their lives before any one else's.

The Parachute Badge was worn by U.S Army paratroopers.

The Glider Badge was worn by U.S Army Airborne soldiers that rode gliders into the combat.

The Air Mobile Badge was unofficially worn by air assault soldiers.

All three of these badges were significant to the 11th Airborne Division, because soldiers could detect who was who. Since the badges had a symbol that was related to what the soldiers were, they could tell what soldiers were supposed to be doing a certain activity based on if they had a parachute, a glider or air mobile on their badge.

The one parachute and two glider infantry regiments that the 11th Division had were key objects during battle. On the Island of Leyte in the Philippines, the infantry secured the beachhead and then fought their way in. "The parachute infantry regiment was held in reserve for several days before conducting the divisions first airborne operation..." The last combat the division had during WW2 was in the north of Luzon, where the Americans and Philippine forces battled "to subdue the remaining Japanese resistance on the island."
There is a book called "The Angels: A History of the 11th Airborne Division" by Jr. E. M. Flanagan, which describes the events and what the soldiers went through.

Private First Class Manuel Perez Jr. was awarded the Medal of Honor, because he killed 18 Japanese soldiers, and neutralized many Japanese bunkers. The Medal of Honor is "Americas highest and most prestigious personal military decoration that may be awarded to recognize U.S military service members who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor." This award means so much to the 11th Airborne Division, because there has only been 3,522 medals awarded since March 25, 1863.

The 11th Airborne Division is not around anymore today. This division started in 1943, and ended in 1946. The soldiers in this division fought in Japan after WW2. They were Transported to Okinawa, Japan on August 12th. Their job was to "secure the surrounding area, evacuate all Japanese civilians and military personnel within a radius of three miles, and finally occupy Yokohama itself." The 11th Airborne Division stayed the same throughout their 3 years of battle. The soldiers always listened to commands and the majors and lieutenants always had good ideas.
