Answer: In the beginning of chapter 9, Rafe explains experiences he has with students involved with band/orchestra and the chorus. He explains how when he was a beginning teacher he always got annoyed when students had to leave class and go to band/orchestra or chorus. He then learned the basic truth about students and the arts. Rafe went onto say, "Students involved in arts education are learning about things far beyond the art they study." (pg. 107)
Personally, I believe students should be required to TRY band, orchestra, and/or chorus sometime in their elementary school years for a few reasons. The students are not only learning HOW to play the instrument, but they are learning responsibility, teamwork, practice, time management, and listening skills. During my early elementary school years, my school required students try either band or orchestra. On top of that, we all were required to go to chorus as a special throughout the week. Personally, I enjoyed the fact that my school required us to pick between band or orchestra because I really enjoyed playing the violin as I grew up. All because my school required students to try out the arts, I ended up finding something I loved to do.

Question 2: Should students have other times during the day to do some type of physical activity, not just in gym class or recess?

Answer: As everyone is aware, this topic of how much physical activity students should get has a bunch of different view points. Even though schools provide students with recess and gym class, not every student gets to participate in it because some teachers use missing recess as a punishment, which I do not agree with. I believe students need to get the most physical activity as possible everyday. It is known that when teachers add some kind of movement into the students day, they will be more focused and ready to learn. I can relate to this because Dr. Walker does this during every class of ours by using GoNoodle and other fun ways. With the being said, I believe teachers should find different ways they can add more physical activity for the kids throughout the day.

Question 3: Do you believe all students should take classes that teach them about important life skills such as writing checks, doing taxes, and learning how to be organized?

Answer: I believe it is very important for schools to be implementing important life skills into schools, whether it is with specific classes that are for these life skills or adding them into regular school classes that every student takes. Personally, I wish it was done while I was in grade school. As I grew up, I never took an accounting class or any class that helps teach students about these important life skills. Honestly, the only reason I know them now is because of my Mom. With that being said, if I was a student whose parents were not always trying to help and on top of my academics, I would still not know how to do them. I believe if schools implement these important life skills into the classroom, students will be more aware of how to handle things that will come up later on in their life.
