To me, reflective practice is understanding that as teachers there is constant opportunity for reflection. As we move along in our careers, there are opportunities to reflect on our teaching self, our professionalism, our place in the setting and how we can make a difference and change. Reflective practice is being able to reflect on your actions in your practice, and help you to move forward into the future. Reflective practice helps us to make sense of why we do things the way we do, and if there are ways we can improve on this.

From reading the powerpoint my beginning of an understanding of reflective practice is it that its the reflection on one's self, and the different teachings they have used. I have also understood that it is reflecting on what you have done in your practice (ECE setting), and giving yourself the opportunity to look back on what you did, and how you may be able to improve that for the future in the similar circumstances. Reflective practice is something that can be used as a student as I know I reflect back on different situations to learn from them and know what I can do for next time.

To me reflective practice is when you choose to reflect within yourself regarding your own practice. This is a time where to can reflect on what you did well, not so well and create a strategy/plan to improve yourself within your practice. When you reflect this is giving yourself the opportunity to work on yourself for the better future. There are many different areas you can reflect on, but this is up to you whether you want to reflect on everything overall or just reflect on one certain area.

Asking yourself "am I doing this with the best interests of the children at heart? Or is it just what is easy for me?" In doing this, Kaiako can grow and evolve in their practice, ultimately improving the overal experience for children within their care. Having the ability to notice patterns in personal teaching behaviour, times when one might become overwhlemed/frustrated, or when the teaching experience feels grounded and 'good' is so crucial to sustainable success as a Kaiako.
