Important Quotes

"Dicey understood, just then, and wished she didn't, just what the Tillermans had done to Gram by coming to live with them. Because she did love them, and that meant not only the good parts, but also the worry and fear. Until the children came along, nothing could hurt Gram." (Chapter 3)

This is an important quote because it shows how the Tillerman's have an impact on their grandmother's life.

"I'm the kind of person who has to learn things the hard way. You've got to hold on. Hold on to people. They can get away from you. It's not always going to be fun, but if you don't—hold on—then you lose them." (Chapter 4)

This is an important quote because Gram is saying that things may get hard, but you'll be okay in the end.

" got to thinking—when it was too late—you have to reach out to people. To your family, too. You can't just let them sit there, you should put your hand out. If they slap it back, well you reach out again if you care enough. If you don't care enough, you forget about them, if you can." (Chapter 8)

This is important because Gram talks about how if there is someone negative in your life you shouldn't let them be in your life. This is towards Dicey's mom.

I picked this song because I think it relates to the book, because this song explains how you have to be strong when things go rough, and Dicey is so strong throughout the whole book.

I really enjoyed reading Dicey's Song. This book shows how hard life can be sometimes, and how you have to keep on moving forward no matter what goes on. The main thing I took out of this book would have to be everything happens for a reason, and to always keep your head up. This book really opened my eyes up about how rough life was back then, and how it can be rough for some people. I can make a ton of connections to this book because I've been through life patches in my life, but I always got through it. I can relate to Dicey because I've been in situtions where I have to care for others, and worry about others besides myself.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is a teenager. I would recommend this to them because it shows how life was back then, and it'll make them have a clear understanding about how sometimes life will knock you down, but you just got to keep moving forward.
