Poe was thought to be an unethical yet intellectually advanced man. He was exposed to drugs and alcohol that led him into an unenviable depression. However, all of Poe's insanity was thought to have occurred due to his parents dying at a young age, living with foster parents, and going to the army. Proof of his insanity was shown when he married his cousin, was thought to send letters to himself, and had gone missing.

Theories about Poe's death include ideas like suicide because people thought he was very dark and he had very traumatic life, including his mom dying at the age of 2 and his biological dad, murder because back then there was this thing called cooping which was where you got kidnapped by a gang and were forced to vote under different identities and the killed later, cholera because he was said to have cholera and there was a pandemic of it when he was alive so its possible, low blood sugar which is when you don't have enough glucose and there was no syringes of that so you eventually die of it, and tons more. Those are some of the many ways people theorize Edgar Allen Poe could have died.

Like in Annabel Lee where Annabel is killed and then he becomes sad and the rest of the poem is also sad. Also some of his poems are crazy because he was thought to be crazy. In the poem "Tell Tale Heart" he becomes crazy and kills someone then confesses because he hears a heart beat that only he can hear because he has schizophrenia.
