Quite the Padlet today! Today went very well also, I helped the librarian during the library period, by passing out books and helping students with their work of citing sources, and helped students in each of the other class blocks with their work. During recess, I demonstrated the might of WHS soccer ball kicking, and helped a student be more social with his peers. This adds to my “quest” of learning of the different ways young students/children socialize with their peers and others, that being that some may need a “kickstart” and encouragement mainly from adults, as they generally do (at least say they will) much of what adults/authority figures tell them to. Once they receive this boost, there is a good likelihood the effect of their work will compound, and they’ll gain experience. Since I took Mandarin in middle and HS, I was not able to help to my peak ability in the Spanish block of school. During the second recess, I was able to participate in “dare-tag” with four students, very fun, and I beat all but one (and only due to my lack of agility I swear) with my speed. I was amazed by the games the students came up with, and the social aspects surrounding it. A poet came in and I was able to participate with the students, very fun. We then concluded the day with a WIN block and a writing workshop in which I helped students as needed.

First half day today! We started by finishing up comparing and contrasting two books by the same author. Then the students moved onto working on their poetry, I played soccer with students at recess as goalie, and my goalkeeping abilities were overwhelmed by the sheer proximity to which they would kick the ball into the goal. Returning from recess, we moved onto math, where I helped students as needed, and we moved onto the final block of science, where the students took a test.

After that we transitioned into Spanish, I took down maps to make space for the state project for a part of Spanish. I observed the students practicing their Spanish presentations and was surprised by how they worked together so well even when the subject matter was in a different language. During recess, I played basketball, and upon returning to the classroom we moved to math and writing workshop, in which I helped students with their poetry. During the recess after lunch I played soccer with some of the students, we then moved onto science and reading workshop, where I helped students as needed.

At recess, I played soccer and used the boomerang with the students. After recess was math, where I helped students with their dream box as needed. We then moved onto Spanish, where I helped as needed with their Spanish product selling projects. During the 2nd recess I once again played soccer with the students, during reading workshop and WIN block I helped students to stay on task and quiet while reading and doing their work. And with an end of sharing Highs and Lows of the week, the day concluded, along with my first week!

We then moved onto art where I helped students work on their flower paintings, some very complex ones were made! At recess I played soccer with students (noticing a pattern here!) and upon returning we moved onto math, where I assisted students in understanding the box method, which I still use to this day! During writing workshop I helped students with their continuation of working on their poems, and the went to lunch and recess, where I played soccer. Coming back from that, we went into sharing highs and lows from over break, and then went into science, where the students were introduced to their mammal unit and WIN block, where I helped as needed. We then had teachers choice and the day concluded.

We then examined two books by her, and afterwards students read their independent books where I checked in on what students were reading, some of their books are the same as when I read when I was in 4th grade (of course that was only 8 years ago). During library, I helped students working on their citations and with technical difficulties with their iPads. During recess, I played, well, soccer. And we returned to teacher's choice and Spanish, where the students had their presentations. At recess after lunch I played soccer, and we returned to science where we continued our mammal unit, where they learned abut learning about an animal from the skulls. We then had writing workshop where I helped the students work on their poems. We moved onto WIN block and the day concluded.

The Half Day started off with me helping with math during check in, and we then moved into reviewing math homework with the class. We then had reading workshop where we read a book about the Lewis and Clark Expedition and continued our unit on westward expansion. The students then worked on their independent westward expansion reading and writing in their reader’s journals, they then discussed what they learned. During recess, I played a penalty kick only game of soccer, and we returned to math where we reviewed open responses and reviewed math MCAS practice work from yesterday. The students then reviewed multiplication strategies and then worked on their resort reports, where I helped as needed. We moved into science where the students finished up their teeth study and worked on their mystery mammal hypothesis, then learned about…scat, which went surprisingly well. The half day then concluded.

We started the day with a short check in and moved straight into PE, where the students played volleyball and I helped keep them from lodging the balls in the ceiling. We returned to Teacher’s Choice, where the state report was given an overview. We moved into Spanish where they worked on AAPL assignments, and during recess I played soccer. We returned to math, where we reviewed division strategies and worked with partners on word problems with visual representations. We moved into social studies, where we continued our subunit on immigration by reading more books on the subject. I supervised indoor recess, and it was apparently much quieter than usual, must be my foreboding aura. We moved onto science where we continued the scat subunit, where I helped as needed to keep the students on task, and I helped students with spelling and drawing the scat models. We then had reading workshop and the day concluded.

A slightly shorter day today due to English class, but it started out with me helping with math morning check in work. We then had reading workshop where students continued working on their maps of when states became states, and once done worked on an article about the great migration of 1843. During music, I helped as needed, and during recess in a 1v1v1v1v1v1 I was crowned World Cup champion 2/2 times, truly I am the best…against 4th graders, yet this was not without sacrifice, as I full force toe-kicked a ball and this resulted in quite the pain. We returned to a math check in and later on I helped keep students on task and with their work and organizing of their folders. We then reviewed MCAS practice, and with the end of math, I had to leave for English class.

We then moved into art, where they worked on landscape drawings, and I drew one of my own. At recess, I played soccer, and we returned to math where the students worked on multiple towers. They then worked on SAB work, which I helped with as needed by students. We moved into writing workshop where the state project was reviewed, they discussed researching, the schedule and more. During recess, I played basketball and I will admit my ankles were breaking one too many times. We moved into science where we continued the mammal unit where the students started a hair/fur subunit. They took observations of pelts given to them, and I helped as needed. Into WIN block we went, where the students practiced MCAS computer answering. We then had teacher’s choice and the day concluded.

The day started with me playing Frisbee before school with some of the students, and we moved into check in when I helped students with their math as needed. We transitioned into Social Studies where we read “The Sneetches” and then the students started working on their state report notes. We then had library where I helped as needed, at recess I played Frisbee, and we returned to Math. In Math, they continued reviewing and working on division, such as 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers, and learned partial quotient strategy, I helped with their work as needed. We moved into Spanish the students worked on AAPL work and talking about emotions, during recess I played soccer and then had to leave for English.

The students then took a survey related to being a student in Sprague in the last thirty days, and completed a form for 5th grade. We then read a book called “Mary and The Trail of Tears” a historical fiction about the impact of westward expansion on Native Americans. At recess, I played a very large, very competitive basketball game in which it was voted on by the other team that I had to stand still and could only shoot! Before math, I received some of the greatest letters and shirt/fishing guides ever, I loved it so much!
