In May 1940 Churchill and some of his men ambushed a German patrol Churchill gave the signal to attack by raising his sword. Jack managed to start the ambush by killing one of the Germans with his longbow. Virginia broke off and was rewarded with the Confederate capital. North Carolina and Tennessee also did the same over the next two months. Secession sentiment was strong in Missouri and Maryland, but did not prevail; Kentucky tried to be neutral. The Confederate attack on Fort Sumter rallied Americans north of the Mason-Dixon line to the defense of the American nation. Winston also showed his face at factory's were people made the bullets and weapons and also talk to people on the streets. He portrayed himself as a lone voice calling for rearmament against Germany in the early 1930’s. Then on the 3rd of September 1939, British declared war on Germany after it had attacked Poland. Churchill was appointed Prime Minister on May 1940. Churchill was a dedicated man. He was a war correspondent, a soldier, a writer and a statesman. He was passionate about the betterment of his country, regardless of his good and bad criticisms. And of course, more than passionate about winning the war as it would be shown later in his career.
