What about Science and Technique Museums ?

I teach Physics and I'd like to 'use' a mueum visit to let students become curious about how some modern things work thanks to old discoveries and inventions.

For example I found it interesting that kind of museum in Berlin. I grouped students in three. I asked them to wonder around the three floors of the SPECTRUM museum and experience all the interactive activities they liked. Then I asked them to focus on electricity and magnetism because we were studying that branch at the moment (they were at the last year)

They had to report which experiment/activity they liked most and to which daily life aspect it could be related to

Then they had to answer some questions I had prepared about the topic.

What do you think about it ?

Some years ago I visited the Science museum in London and in the section for maths there was this exhibition I show in the pictures...

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CahpmAirac3IxEIuMwyyTowsJ2iHemP3

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1jKQkhbArOcvbJgyXoSnXX-Xm3vtqeVu8

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yDIwyoDUPQkhfs6LmLBmLRLkCXkUJaif

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yZuOQrx_Igz6DMcKoL-HC_kRUV39JDJk

Then I asked students to do something similar with a polesterole cone, cut by a plane with different inclination.

They worked in group of 4. I asked them to place the conic shapes on a drawing paper, place the cartesian axes and recognize the curve, describe the main features, write the equation they had already studied. This was a practical way to assess them. The following step was to solve rpoblems and do exercise but after having seen the curves , all had more sense.

In the following video and pictures I'm explaining this activity during a teacher training week in the ERASMUS + project "Not a So.Lo.

I think that the visit has to be necessary stimulating for students in studying the topic.

Of course organizing the visit could be stressing but, for example, in my school there is a teacher who has the extra task to organise, contact, and book the activities, once the team of teachers gives him the main indications as for example

Where we want to go, which museum to visit - Which activities we need to do there - When approximately we need to go (giving a week within to choose the date consequently to the museum free dates) - Which classes will join the activities - How many students.

Once s/he gets these information, the burocratic machine starts to move and teachers only have to take care of the didactic aspect.
