Students will be able to identify various aspects of identity represented by our students and the world beyond the classroom. More than just the typical race and gender, inclusive of religion, ability/disability, and more.

Identity Goal: Students will be able to share an experience they had persevering.

ELA: Students will be able to orate a time they had to problem-solve or persevere through a situation through a monologue, skit, poem.

Math: Student will persevere through open-ended, multistep word problems.

Social Studies- Students will be able to create a timeline of a challenging event that shows beginning, middle, and end of how they were able to persevere through the events. Problem- solving sequence.

Art- Students will be able to research an artist who was able to persevere through trying times and experiences, then create their own art work in that artists style. ex. Frida Kahlo

Criticality Goal: Students will be able to examine the way society and social norms impact identity. Example: The study of Walter Dean Myers and the obstacles he had to overcome personally (loss of mother) and within the society he lived (racism in America).

Intellectual Goal: Students will research a variety of strategies and methods to build  their resilience and perseverance. Strengthening their emotional awareness and intellect.

Intellect: Students will research different points of view about  if sports should be gender neutral and inclusive of people with disabilities.

Criticality: Students will be able to engage in a debate around inequities in sports.

Joy: Students will be able to engage in a pass the positivity activity. (Students share positive traits about their peers.)

  • Students will be able to  create a name autobiography discussing the story of their name, after listening to the story "Alma and How She Got Her Name".

  • Students will compose an acrostic poem to represent their names, beliefs, and identities.


Math: 
  • Students will be able to use fractions to represent the number of vowels and consonants in their name and compare and contrast their findings with their peers. 
  •  Students will create a poll about name origins and using the data to create a bar graph and then analyze the data by fractions. 

Science:
Students will be able to conduct research on the place where their name came from. Identify the weather and if the place of origin has any natural disasters. 

PE:
Students will engage in various physical activities around the amount of letters or the actual letters in their name. Ex. Parachute  Who ever has a letter _ in the name enter their parachute or play Steal the Bacon

Social Studies:
Students will be able to research the history of their last name and create a family tree based on their research.

Art:
Students will be able to design a name tag that showcases their identify and the traits that are important to them.

Identity Goal: 
Students will understand the origin of their names and use that to identify themselves, understand themselves, and celebrate similarities and differences between themselves and their peers.

Criticality Goals: 
  • Students will learn about the history of name changes as families came to America. 
  • How does your name help others know who you are and what you believe?
