The Sudanese government used chemical weapons against civilians in a part of Darfur. Most of the people that died due to exposure to the chemicals were young children (Amnesty International).

Gas and Chemical Weapons Connection

In Chapter 4 of All Quiet on the Western Front, the text says, "I hear nothing, he rattles me, comes nearer, in a momentary lull his voice reaches me: 'Gas— Gaas— Gaaas— Pass it on.' I grab for my gas-mask"(Remarque 67-67). Gas warfare was used on the Western Front in World War 1. Similarly, chemical weapons were used against the civilians in Darfur. Exposure to gas and chemical weapons was fatal and caused many people to die during World War 1 and the Darfur genocide.
