The personal artifact I have chosen to share comes in two parts. The first is my camera, and the second is the photo albums underneath. They are meaningful to me because they represent a continuation of my life. Growing up, looking through photo albums was one of my favourite things, and I wanted to continue creating albums of my life moving forward. My current albums are of my family, and my memories through elementary school up until present day at university. I find that there really is something so comforting about sitting and flipping through the pages and pages of memories, instead of scrolling through a phone. I want to be able to create albums for my future, and ones for my children so they are able to have something tangible and real in a world that is so digitized.

These are my artifacts. My cross country skis, my down hill skis and my snowshoes. These artifacts mean so much more to me than simply being active and healthy. They are also a passion and they allowed me to grow as a person. I have never pushed myself harder when I'm snowshoeing or cross country skiing and through pushing my limits I surpass expectations and grow as a person. My downhill skis are probably the most meaningful. It is a sport that has been part of my life for 19 years and I have worked in this domaine for 10 years now. I have learned so much about myself as a worker, as a friend and as given me the chance to grow in all aspects of life. Unfortunately, it is my last year running a ski hill however I am forever grateful for the growth that has come from these sports.

This is my artifact. I have a passion for fitness. I bring this bag wherever I want to workout, such as the basement or outdoors in a field. I can always rely on fitness to give me energy, take away stress, help with my leg pain, and get to my fitness goals. I would bring this bag to teach people workouts as well and it was always a fun time.

The artifact that best represents me is an English-Greek dictionary. There are many reasons as to why I chose this object as my artifact. Firstly, as it is a book, I chose it for my passion for reading. Secondly, as it is a dictionary, it represents me as a Linguistics graduate and ESL teacher. I chose an English-Greek dictionary specifically because I am Greek-Canadian, and those are two languages and cultures that best represent who I am. This artifact also reminds me of the country that I am from, and how much I love to travel to Greece to visit my family.

I did competitive figure skating for eight years growing up. I love to stay active in the winter, and the freedom that I feel on the ice is incomparable to anything else. It is my passion, along with dance. It is a beautiful sport that I adore. These figure skates were the first pair that I bought with my own money a few years after I had quit skating. I took this picture this morning on the rink.

My artefact is the street sign in the photo that reads Wolsely Street. I chose this as my artefact because my house on Wolsely Street holds many memories. During my undergrad, I lived there for 3 years and many amazing memories were formed under that roof. I met so many wonderful people during my time in Peterborough and it makes my heart warm thinking back on my lived experiences. The sign itself was hung up before we moved in, but each tenant who lived there has signed it. It was a legacy piece that remained as we all floated through the house. My roommates and I were the last students to live there, and I was the lucky one who got to keep the sign :)

My personal artifact is this number 6. The number 6 is my lucky number. This particular number 6 comes from the first building I moved into when I first left home. After a night out, me and some friends noticed the number on the floor in the staircase and it became a symbol of the amount of great times I had in my first apartment. Little did I know, I would stay in this building but change apartments for my whole university career. And so every time I move, I pin up this number 6 in my apartment to represent the old memories I've had and the new ones yet to come.

My love for tulips was an obvious reason. But my friend told me this cup reminded her of me, perfect because of its (many) imperfections.

My artifact is the book I handwrote when I was thirteen, mostly alone in my bedroom tapping into flow or in the wee hours sitting in A&W while my mother was working. It is 200 pages long (physical), or around 88,000 words typed up on the computer. I was unsatisfied with how some books were written, so I decided to write my own. My first works were a picture book about a dog and a player's manual for a video game at nine, followed by a handwritten chapter book (25,000 words) when I was eleven typed up on a floppy disc and subsequently lost. This is the only typed work I still have that has stuck around. It is 16 years old and faded, but still legible.

For my artifact, I decided to chose not one but two pieces of meaningful jewelry that together hold a cool story. Although this ring and necklace look almost identical, I actually received them years apart by different important people in my life. I received the purple ring as a gift from my grandparents in 2013. Two years later, my significant other gifted me this necklace that him and his grandmother picked out together. These pieces of jewelry remind me of the people I love most. Also, the similarity between the two pieces of jewelry remind me of the learned connection between my family and my SO’s family. A couple years after we started dating, we found out that our grandparents actually used to go to school together when they were kids & that our great-uncles are neighbours. What a small world.

My artifact was going to be just my fountain pen but I couldn't exclude the ink or my notebook from the combination, as they are equally important ! I have always been a pen and paper type of person, and you can usually find a notebook and a few pens tucked away somewhere in my purse or backpack. They are the first two things I pack when I am traveling and for the last year, writing has been the first thing I do every morning. The pen itself was gifted by a friend who along with it shared a book that changed her life, "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. The book encourages a daily practice of "Morning Pages" - writing 3 pages of anything first thing in the morning, as a way to clear your head and make room for creative thoughts. I highly recommend the book, or just the practice of writing or clearing your thoughts in another way, first thing in the morning.

The artifact I have chosen is a lavender plant my parents gifted me when I moved away for school. They chose to gift me a lavender plant to promote calmness in stressful situations, such as moving away and being in university. I leave this plant in my room to this day to help me find peace of mind and calm myself down when stressed.

A few summers ago I went tree planting in Northern Ontario. For almost two months we were without electricity, running water, or cellphones, sleeping in tents in the middle of the woods. This was difficult, but it created a strong community within our camp. One day I injured myself, and had to stay at camp for the week. That day, the crew planted extra trees for me, and put them on my pay check to cover my food costs for the week. This was an incredible gesture, and it helped me out greatly. During that week, one of my good friends from the camp was working on a stone pendant for me. At the end of the week, he gave me this New-Zealand Jade pendant. It’s called a Toki (or Adze), and it represents bravery and courage during hard times. Whenever I think back to these times, I can’t help but smile. Although I still have lasting injuries from that summer, I still deeply cherish the experiences and connections.

I am grateful for the opportunities it has given me, such as coaching and my experience that lead me to teachers education!

I chose my glasses as my artifact. (The book is just for decor) The reason why i chose my glasses is because I use them everyday and I rely on them for so many different things, such as work, driving and reading. I have been wearing glasses since I was 8 years old. I remember being devastated that I needed glasses. I was so worried that my school friends would look at me differently or perhaps make fun of me. My father, who happened to own an optical store and lab assured me that we would choose glasses that would suit me. My father definitely had a knack for fitting glasses on people's faces and ever since he has always helped me choose glasses that fit me. I have loved wearing glasses since because I feel that they are part of my face, like an added piece of jewellery.
