suggested Kezia make a handmade pin-cushion as a birthday present, believing that acts of kindness and affection could help build a bond between Kezia and her father. Furthermore, the grandmother frequently spoke about Kezia’s father’s love, assuring Kezia that his strictness was merely a facade and that he truly cared for her.

Impact of Wind on Weak and Strong Fires

Wind demonstrates power and discernment by extinguishing weak fires and amplifying strong ones. Weak fires—like vulnerable or timid spirits—are snuffed out by the wind’s force. Conversely, when the wind meets strong fires, it fans and helps them burn brighter, rewarding resilience and strength. Thus, the wind in the poem symbolizes challenges that defeat the frail but help the strong thrive, teaching the importance of developing one’s inner fortitude.

Einstein’s Mother and Mileva

Einstein’s mother, Pauline, opposed his marriage to Mileva Marić for several reasons. Pauline believed that Mileva was older than Albert and not physically healthy, raising concerns about family harmony and prospects for children. There were cultural and religious differences, and Pauline felt Mileva’s strong intellect and ambitions conflicted with the conventional expectations of a wife at that time. Ultimately, Pauline thought Mileva was not suitable for Albert and feared the marriage would not bring happiness or stability.

Meaning of ‘Melancholy Darkness’

The phrase “melancholy darkness gently weeps in rainy tears” is poetic imagery that expresses a mood of gentle sadness or introspective gloom. Here, darkness represents loneliness and sorrow, while “weeping in rainy tears” personifies nature as softly crying with rain. The overall effect is to evoke an atmosphere where the night’s sadness blends with comfort—a quiet, reflective moment as rain falls, blending feelings of melancholy and consolation.

Boy’s Reaction to the Fair Before and After Separation

At first, the boy at the fair is delighted and passionate about the sights, sounds, and objects—craving toys, sweets, and rides. He is full of joy, wandering about eagerly. However, when he loses his parents, his attitude shifts dramatically. Fear and anxiety replace excitement, and the attractions of the fair lose their appeal; the only thing he now cares about is finding his family, refusing all offers for toys and sweets from others. It is a vivid transformation from material desire to a deep emotional need for belonging and security.

Why Hide Toto?

The narrator and his grandfather hid Toto, the monkey, because the grandmother strongly disapproved of pets and would not accept another mischievous animal in the house. Grandfather, who had a fondness for strange and exotic pets, wanted to keep Toto’s presence a secret until he could introduce the animal under favorable circumstances and avoid unnecessary conflict at home.
