The US first imposed sanctions in the 1950s and those sanctions were later tightened in the 1980s.

Sanctions were put into place in the 1950s due to the trading with the enemy act and were tightened in the 1980s due to human rights abuses and South Korea being bombed.
The sancitons put in place on North Korea negatively affected the quality of life for many citizens. There were not as many imports or exports which lead to less food and money for the already poor country.

Iran

Banks and firms have withdrawn from Iran, which has made it so that Iranians have gotten rare and severe diseases, and were unable to get medical care.

The sanction was put into place because of Syria's totalitarian rule, and because of their various war crimes such as murder, hostage-taking, and torture.
Because the sanction prevents US exports to Syria, people in Syria are prevented from accessing many technologies used for many purposes, such as education, online shopping and work. They also lack access to many other important US exports, such as oil.

1962 US president John F Kennedy put an embargo on Cuba. The reason for this embargo was because of the Cuban missile crisis. The embargo raised the cost of medical supplies in Cuba because it discouraged shipments from delivering.
